The Core of the Matter

The tech company Apple is currently being pestered by the FBI to create a back door to the iPhone. Apple is refusing and this is causing massive controversy. The thing is, with this back door, all iPhone information is at risk. If the program is ever released, then ever iPhone in existence could be hacked. This would also give extreme control to the government. The risk is too great to consider this. The government is currently scrapping up anything to convince Apple. They are calling this backdoor something else, and they say they will give the program to Apple. But, what happens if someone hacks Apple? “The digital world is very different from the physical world. In the physical world you can destroy something and it’s gone. But in the digital world, the technique, once created, could be used over and over again, on any number of devices.”(Apple’s Tim Cook vs. the FBI, round two: “This case is about much more than a single phone”) Also, the government isn’t the most trustworthy with this sensitive information. “this demand would undermine the very freedoms and liberty our government is meant to protect.” (USA Today Video and article) This could lead to a massive increase in crime and hacks. This could devastate America and all countries that use Apple phones. This might push companies to create encryption so powerful, that not even the creator could hack through it. Where do you stand on this issue? Why? What do you think will happen if the government will then turn to a different company for help? Why?

The war between the FBI and Apple just heated up again

  1. I stand against the FBI in this case because everyone has the right to privacy. This request goes against that right, what's to say the FBI uses it for more than just the 73 phones they said they would? They have a record of secretly collecting information on everyone and I believe that they will do the same again. This is why Apple should not give them the code to protect the information of every common citizen.
